About hydrilla
What is hydrilla?
Hydrilla (Hydrilla verticillata) is an invasive submerged plant that roots in the lake bed and grows to the surface in dense mats. It's a prohibited exotic species in Texas. Full identification guide.
How do I know if the weeds at my dock are hydrilla?
Look for small pointed leaves in rings (whorls) of about 4 to 8 around the stem, with toothed edges that feel rough when you run a strand through your fingers. Not sure? Text us a close-up photo.
Why does hydrilla come back after it's removed?
It regrows from tubers buried in the sediment, from buds called turions, and from stem fragments. Here's the full explanation.
Is hydrilla dangerous to swim in?
It isn't known to be toxic, but dense mats can wrap around swimmers and hide the bottom, so most families want swim areas cleared. Swim area clearing.

How do you remove hydrilla?
By hand. We lift the surface mat with long-handled rakes, cut stems at the base with underwater blades, then bag everything and haul it off-site. See the process.
Do you use chemicals?
No. There are no herbicides and no machinery, so you can swim, fish, and let pets in the water right after we finish.
What do you do with the weeds you remove?
Every bit is bagged and hauled away from the lake, so nothing is left to drift and re-root.
Do you offer ongoing maintenance?
Yes. Seasonal maintenance visits during the growing season keep regrowth small.
Is the work guaranteed?
We stand behind it. If growth comes back in a spot we cleared, tell us and we'll make it right.

We typically reply the same day or the next.
Do you work for HOAs and neighborhood associations?
Yes. Community swim beaches, boat ramps, and shared shorelines are a good fit, especially on a maintenance schedule.
Do I need a permit for hand removal?
Herbicides and grass carp in Texas public waters generally require state approval. Rules for other methods can vary by lake, lake operator, and HOA. Ask us about your spot and we'll point you in the right direction.
